XADO partner gets a hat-trick at Cadwell Park
We continue with our reports from the Foggy Albion. In early May we already told you about the English partner of XADO Chemical Group Mike Comber, who participates in the national MX5 Championship.
After a long six week break Comber proved yet again what a driving talent he is winning all three rounds and setting a new lap record.
Over the two days the track conditions ranged from heavy rain in qualifying on Saturday morning, good sunny conditions for the Saturday afternoon race and then a similar weather pattern on Sunday for the two rounds.
Comber actually slipped off the track in the last minute of qualifying, and severely damaged his car, but still secured a front row position for race 1.
Fortunately, as we already told you earlier, Mike Comber runs his own garage in Thrussington, so the car was soon fixed and both he and Multiple MX5 champion and British GT racer Tom Roche set an electric pace at the front. Mike was content to follow Tom for the first 8 laps of the 12 lap race, but then slipped past his competitor setting a new lap record in the process.
On the following day the battle for championship resumed. In the end Comber won by almost 13 seconds. After two wins Mike was under pressure for a clean sweep. In the next race Comber had last year’s MX5 champion, David Chapman, next to him. Mike had no reason to take any chances, so brought his car home 6 seconds ahead of Chapman.
So now our partner has over 700 points from the first 7 rounds of the competition. His closest rival is almost 30 points behind. In 4 weeks the racing comes to the mid-point of the season. Mike’s aim is to gain two more wins. XADO Company sincerely wishes his all the best.
