Dergachi Snow Rally Camp: No Winners
Ukrainian motorsport season of 2015 started in Kharkiv region. An open training with a set clock called Dergachi Snow Rally Camp took place on January 25 on the track near Dergachi, Kharkiv region. One of the event organizers was XADO Motorsport rally team.
Despite the bad weather, the number of participants was satisfactory: 23 crews from Kharkiv, Kyiv, Cherkasy, Dnipropetrovsk as well as from Donetsk region were present during the start. These crews included both professional pilots on cars with specially prepared bodies and studded tires, such as Nikolai Chmykh and Stanislav Besedin, and amateurs on commercial vehicles.
There was no traditional separation by categories in this competition. The primary goal in this case involved practiced driving under extreme conditions. However, due to the precise timing, determining the best crew both in separate rounds and at the end of the competition posed no problem. The best crew of Nikolai Chmykh who drove a Subaru Impreza beat their closest competitor by 1.5 minutes in overall standing. According to Nikolai, victory or prizes weren’t the issue, but the pilots still felt the racing rush: “With each round we managed to improve our time by 5–10 seconds which is certainly a good thing. In between the seasons such training sessions allow us to stay in shape…”
Aleksei Besedin, the director of XADO Motorsport team, says that absence of any serious accidents was even more important than winning. “One can certainly expect anything when driving on such a complicated track covered with ice and snow or going through a forest. But there were no serious accidents and we only recorded a single fallout from the race!”
The experience of organizing such an event will come in hand in the future — when the season fully starts with traditional rallies near Kharkiv.
